Note about editions and translations: For this course, any basically complete version of Chaucer’s text will do (lots of them are abridged and abridging the Tale of Melibee and The Parson’s Tale is fine for this class). In terms of translations, Neville Coghill’s verse translation from Penguin is reasonably complete and will serve our purposes well. In the original Middle English, Jill Mann’s edition, also from Penguin, is excellent, as is David Lawton’s Norton edition of Chaucer’s complete works. Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have about the edition or translation that you are thinking about using: r.d.perry@du.edu.
