• FALL 2019 Registration OPENS online on August 5, 2019

  • The OLLI-on-Campus Program continues to grow as our members find it invigorating to be on a college campus and to reap the benefts the location affords. The OLLI-on-Campus Managers, Joanne and Jackie, have worked hard to provide courses for our members that stimulate all parts of the mind and body. Research on the aging brain indicates that learning a new skill, working with your hands to strengthen eye-hand coordination and processing speed, and stimulating your mind with new ideas all help in healthy aging. You will see our focus on these research fndings in the courses we have planned for the Fall (e.g., Oil Painting, WARLI Art, and Jewelry Making). We hope you will reach beyond your current comfort level and try something new or engage your mind in a new area!

Click on the Registration Tab to review the catalog and register online or fill out the registration form and mail to the OLLI office!  (remember online registration does not open until 12:01 am on Monday, August 5)

  • A Message From the OLLI-at-DU Executive Director, Barbe Ratcliffe

    Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Fall 2019 term of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute aligned with the University of Denver (known to many as OLLI at DU).  OLLI at DU is a thriving organization comprised of over 3,000 lifelong learners all over the age of fifty!  We have six (6) unique Sites.  The catalog you are reviewing is for our OLLI-on-Campus Site.  On the inside of the back cover, we have a map of the Denver metro area and the locations of our six sites.

OLLI at DU is a volunteer organization started nearly twenty-five (25) years ago.  We were built on the concept of ‘peer-lead’ or ‘facilitated’ courses.  This approach provides many opportunities with amazing learning opportunities at an incredibly reasonable price!  This past year the six (6) Sites of OLLI at DU offered a total of more than 500 courses at eight distinct locations.  The majority of these courses were offered by “Facilitators” – OLLI members with a love of sharing their passions. Our OLLI-on-Camus site is unique in that it offers courses led by both peer “facilitators” and university and organization-affiliated “instructors.” Although we do offer some ‘speaker series’ type courses which draw larger numbers of attendees, our typical class size is 25-3- member attendees.  This allows for quality discussion and participation.  We have found that our members enjoy asking questions and engaging in the topic.

I mentioned an incredibly reasonable price.  Any of our terms is offered at a price of $130.00 for the term.  This price provides access to all of the courses offered at all of the Sites that term. We do not work on a first come – first serve basis.  Rather, the first two weeks of any term’s registration period is considered open registration request period.  At the end of this open registration, the staff reviews the registrations to determine if any of the courses are beyond the attendee limit set.  If any classes are over-requested, the staff reduces the number of requests using the priority notations made by the member.  Once we are complete with this process, we then move to a more normal first-come; first-serve process.

I hope, as you peruse this catalog, you see several courses of interest.  I also hope you consider the topic(s) you might like to share with the other OLLI at DU members as a “future facilitator.”

    Barbe
