  • Joi is entering her fourth year as a PhD Student of Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Gifted Education Leadership. Joi is passionate about fostering the career development and well-being of gifted children, adults, and the professionals who support them, in schools, work, play, and life.

    She is an adjunct professor for CUI 4411: Teacher Education Program: Gifted and Talented Workshop. She also works at the Gifted Development Center/Institute for the Study of Advanced Development as Director of Professional Education and at the University of Denver as a Graduate Assistant to the Daniel L. Ritchie Endowed Chair in Gifted Education, Dr. Norma L. Hafenstein, and a Graduate Assistant on I-REECCH, a Jacob K. Javits grant from the U.S. Department of Education.  

    Joi is a proud member of the Colorado Academy of Educators for the Gifted, Talented, and Creative; the Gifted and Talented Leaders of Color and Allies; the National Education Association; the National Association for Gifted Children; and the American Psychological Association. Joi also serves as chair of the Mensa Education and Research Foundation's Gifted Education Fellowship Committee. 

    Joi earned a BS in Mathematics, with an endorsement in Secondary Education, from the University of Northern Colorado and an MS in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Northcentral University. Joi is a former military kid, middle school teacher, curriculum trainer, and labor organizer who lives in Littleton with her partner and their garden.
