Her first article centered on how the works of Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte challenge the status quo by inspiring their readers from all walks of life to question themselves and their surroundings and strive for more than what their society demands of them. In addition, Renissa focuses on Native American studies and the ongoing effects on the legacy of settler colonialism. However, Renissa’s passion lies in Victorian literature. Therefore, she plans on combining her love for Native American and Caribbean literature with Victorian literature at Indiana University in Bloomington, where she will be pursuing a Ph.D. in English Literature.2022 GraduatesJasmine Veronica Sauceda5th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies TeacherKIPP Colorado Public SchoolJasmine Veronica Sauceda (she/they/ella/elle) is a published poet, journalist, blogger, and podcaster. Their works focus on African American studies on race and gender as well as linguistic justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Jasmine's passion for writing center work translates to their role as an educator in writing and literary studies. Teacher Sauceda presently serve as a 5th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at a Title I charter school within the KIPP Colorado network.
2021 GraduatesAsia WesleyStrategic Initiatives and Communications Project ManagerMetropolitan State University of DenverAsia Wesley is a trilingual (English/Spanish/Portuguese) leader in strategic communications, or as she likes to put it, storytelling. Inspired by her academic work completed at DU, Asia applies her literary analysis skills and established professional background to tell stories on websites, social media, newsletters, and more. She is also a scholar of African American and Chicana literature with a Master of English. Her thesis was titled "Adding a Dimension: Illustrating Triple Consciousness Theory in the African American Literary Tradition."
2013 GraduatesJaclyn ReedPhD CandidateUniversity of Western OntarioAfter completing her MA in English Literary Studies, Jackie Reed worked for two years as a technical editor/admin at Itasca Denver and a freelance financial blogger before leaving to pursue a PhD in English Literature at the University of Western Ontario. Her research interests focused on Women's Literature and Gender Studies and 20th-21st Century British and Irish Literature, with a particular interest in temporality studies. In September 2022, she successfully defended her dissertation, The Time Helix: Nonlinear Narrative Structures and the Paradox of Delayed Simultaneity, and she will graduate with her PhD in February 2023.
