Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: What is the difference between an Apprentice Teacher and a Student Teacher?
A: The difference is in the philosophy of our fieldwork model. We promote a gradual release of teaching responsibility throughout the year rather than the traditional student teaching window.Q: What can I expect of my Apprentice Teacher?
A: Apprentice Teachers plan to be in schools for 8-hour days. We encourage them to participate in school-based training and planning whenever possible. They should gradually assume teaching responsibility. The fieldwork calendar provides a suggested guide, but the schedule can be adjusted according to readiness.Q: When will I receive my stipend?
A: Stipends are processed at the end of each session (January and June). Please ensure you have submitted the Mentor contract and w9 form to your University Supervisor.Q: Does being a Mentor count toward CDE recertification?
A: Yes. CDE grants a maximum of 45 hours of professional development credit for student teacher supervision. Please see the following link for more information: http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/Licensure_renewal_info.asp You will receive a letter from our office stating you have served as a Mentor. Please also request a copy of the fieldwork log from your Apprentice Teacher.Q: Who do I ask about...
A: Your student's University Supervisor is your first line of contact. He/she should be able to answer most of your questions or direct you to someone who can help. You are also welcome to contact the Program Director, Jessica Lerner, or the Field Coordinator, Betsy Leonard, at any time. -
