Degree in progress: Master's degree, Research Methods and Statistics

Previous degrees: Bachelor's degree, Psychology (with minors in Sociology and Statistics, Augsburg University)

What inspired you to choose Research Methods and Statistics as a field of study?

I began independent research as a junior in college, and I fell in love. While my university was equipped to help me through the research process, leading to an in-progress hopeful publication, I yearned to continue to learn how to improve and hone my methodological and statistical skills. This program, and this topic, appealed to me because I want to always be pursuing being the best researcher I can be, and I believe this degree is the first step in a life-long journey of continuous skill development, as I try to serve the field of clinical psychology with my research.

    What are your research interests?

I have two primary research interests. The first is regarding the use of cannabinoid oil as an alternative treatment for severe and persistent mental illness. This interest developed following my practicum work with a non-profit organization, Realm of Caring. The second is regarding secondary trauma related to events of sexual assault, specifically in regard to how family members, friends, and significant others are impacted by sexual assault of their loved ones. I have two years of experience researching this topic, and have presented my work at regional research conferences.

What are your professional and/or academic goals?

It is my goal to pursue a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, following the culmination of my degree from this program. I hope to become a professor of clinical psychology and to conduct research on either of the research interests noted above. In the meantime, I am passionate about data analysis (both in the research world and in business) and I work full-time as an analyst for an international corporation.

Please list any professional activities/organizations that you are involved in.

I am a member of Psi Chi, the international honors society for psychology.
