Commuter Students

  • The University of Denver requires all 1st and 2nd year (post-high school) undergraduate students to live in university housing and subscribe to a meal plan.

    For specific details and necessary forms, please refer to the DU Housing and Residence Education Webpage.

    Off-Campus Housing

    DU does not provide off-campus housing, however, there are many resources available on the DU Off Campus Housing Webpage. There are multiple off-campus options available near campus.

    Living At Home

    While DU does have a requirement to live on campus for the first two years, students with specific situations can be released from the requirement. According to the DU Housing and Residence Education Webpage:

    Students may request to be released from both live-on and meal plan requirements, provided that students make such requests in writing well in advance of the beginning of the quarter that they will be requesting the release for to avoid forfeiting deposits and/or housing fees. The Contract Release Committee, or its subcommittee, reviews such requests based on the following criteria:

    1. The student will be living during the academic year at their family/guardian's permanent residence within a 45-mile radius of campus;
    2. The student provides documentation proving that living in university housing would negatively impact a student's health condition;
    3. The student is facing unplanned and unpredicted financial challenges; or,
    4. The student is a transfer student who lived in university housing for two years at the previous university/universities they attended.
    5. Students who provide documentation that they are legally married or in a legal civil union, students who are 21 years of age or older before the residence halls open for the fall quarter, and students who have children are not required to live in university housing.

    More information can be found on the release process here.

    The DU Two-Year Live-On Requirement and Contract Release site contains the necessary forms needed to be released from the two-year live-on requirement. It is not necessary to meet with a housing staff member over the live-at-home request, simply submit the form via e-mail.

    Please be aware of the deadlines to submit the contract release forms.

    Parking

    If you plan on commuting to campus with a vehicle, you may need to obtain a parking pass for DU campus. In order to purchase a DU parking pass, please refer to the the DU Parking Webpage.

    In order to purchase a parking pass, it is necessary make a parking account with DU. You can use your PioneerWeb login to access your parking account on the DU Parking Webpage. Please make sure to register all vehicles you expect to use during the school year in order to avoid citations.

    When selecting which parking pass you would like to purchase, it is helpful to refer to the DU Parking Map in order to understand which lots are located where. Most passes are annual, but please note when your pass is eligible for parking.

    Public Transportation

    All DU students receive a CollegePass with RTD, which is included with student fees. The University of Denver Lightrail station is accesible on the North end of campus on Buchtel Boulevard.
