    Description: Provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of children and their families and to maximize the family well-being and the academic functioning of children. May assist parents, arrange adoptions, and find foster homes for abandoned or abused children.

    School Social Workers provide vital services to schools through assessment, counseling, conflict mediation and resiliency building, alternatives to violence and gangs, attendance monitoring, community referral and liaison work, child abuse reporting, school dropout and youth suicide prevention and intervention, crisis intervention and child and family advocacy.

    Typical Career path: MSW - LSW/SWC - LCSW positions

    Sample Job Titles: Adoption Social Worker, Case Manager, Case Worker, Child Protective Services (CPS) Social Worker, Family Protection Specialist, Family Resource Coordinator, Family Service Worker, Foster Care Social Worker, School Social Worker, Youth Services Specialist, Youth Advocate

    Licensure: A license is often required for entry-level positions.  Graduates should consider obtaining their LSW (or SWC) & LCSW as soon as possible for job eligibility and promotion.  More information is available on the Licensure tab.  School Social Workers also will need a Colorado School Social Work Certification, as determined by the Colorado Department of Education requirements.   *Note if you are a non-Colorado social worker, see the Licensure tab for your state licensure requirements.
