• Big Opportunity

How might we expand the opportunity for people with disabilities to participate in sports? This portfolio explains the different phases of how our group identified the issue in our community of limited accessibility in sports for people with disabilities. We broke up the design after our discovery phase into two different oppurtunities to help make an impact using design skills. Half of us focused on the community of skiers that use monoskis but struggle with the limitations of a non-adujustable ski seat, while the other half of the group focused on the struggles that bike clips prove for amputees.

I'm a Senior Mechanical Engineer with minors in Mathematics and Medical Physics. I currently volunteer in the Human Dynamics Lab as a data processor for a research project on the dynamic motion of patients with total knee replacements. My current interests lie in the medical devices industry, which has encouraged me to work closely with helping the needs of others in the community. I am also a barista at Beans Coffee Shop, the Events Coordinator for the Invisible Illness Club, and the Vice President of Recruitment for Beta Theta Pi.

Hello! I am a senior Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Denver. I have previously worked with the USDA, specifically the Forest Service, to improve accessibility to the wilderness for people with disabilities. When it comes to working with people who have disabilities, I think it is an amazing and indispensable experience that I hope to make part of my career post-college. All of these things make me extremely excited to work on this Sit-ski project bringing hopefully allowing more people to be able to partake in the experience. I am currently the Recruitment Chair for Alpha Gamma Omega on DU's campus.

I'm a junior Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Denver. My experiences in the disabilities community include working for Eaglemount, which is an organization comitted to providing theraputic recreational oppurtunities for children with disabilities, in which I had the amazing oppurtunity to be a ski instructor as well as a camp counsler. I also had the oppurtunity to intern this summer at an architectual engineering firm, in which accessibilty for the disabled was a main focus on several projects. I'm so excited to be a part of this project as it has the potential to really raise awareness and expand the horizon for those with disabilites.
