• Biographical Description

  • My work focuses on the role of public schools and community organizations in shaping the developmental trajectories of youth of color. I conduct community-engaged research on policies and practices that mitigate or contribute to opportunity gaps. My current interests include racial disparities in the school discipline process, school-wide restorative justice, and youth participatory action research. Through my teaching, I share new frameworks for understanding social stratification and innovative ways of approaching practice with adolescents. In the area of service, my goals are to increase the capacity of the University of Denver, the Graduate School of Social Work, and local partners to promote equity-oriented and youth-led strategies for advancing social justice.
