• Fall 2020

  • The University Writing Center works with all University of Denver students, staff, and faculty as part of the Writing Program's mission to create and sustain a robust culture of writing on the DU Campus. We believe that all university writers—from first-year undergraduates to advanced doctoral students to faculty and staff—benefit from having conversations about their writing.

  • Who We Are

  • Our staff includes about 30 peer consultants -- advanced undergraduates and graduates who speak more than 10 languages fluently and have studied in over 30 academic fields and disciplines. Our faculty directors and other Writing Program faculty also teach writing, support the teaching of writing on campus, facilitate workshops, and conduct research.

  • What We Do

  • We hold free, 45-minute, individual consultations in Zoom. Students who are new to DU should know that all the work we do with students is interactive, conversation-based, and learning-oriented. Our goal is to work with you to help you refresh your writing skills and habits and to learn new strategies and practices.

We recommend that you make an appointment ahead of time and prepare for your consultation by having your draft, the assignment prompt and other relevant texts handy. Consider your priorities and goals: which section of a longer paper do you most want to discuss? What specific aspects of clarity or structure do you want to work on? What are you hoping to do with your consultant? Be prepared to ask questions and to participate actively in the consultation.

We also offer classroom and program workshops and free custom workshops for any group of 4+ students who want to learn a new writing genre, concept, or practice. Write to us at wrc@du.edu.
