  • Professor Nicole Nicotera earned her Ph.D. in Social Welfare Research at the University of Washington, Seattle.

    Professor Nicole Nicotera's research and scholarship focus on promoting health and well-being across the life span, mind-body-spirit practices as pathways to well-being, and issues of unearned privilege and oppression in social work practice, education and research.

    As the mixed methodologist, Dr. Nicotera has expertise and experience in conducting and publishing mixed methods research. The majority of her research endeavors involve the use of mixed methods. She is a community engaged scholar and collaborates with numerous community partners for both program evaluation and research.

    In addition to her role as PI on research grants and related publications, she mentors and supervises MSW and PhD students in mixed methods and qualitative data collection, analysis, interpretation, peer-reviewed conference presentations and publications. She also supervises doctoral students in mixed methods dissertations and independent studies to support their preparation of mixed methods dissertation proposals.

    Prof. Nicotera's clinical practice experience included work with children and families in a community mental health center, where she used art, play and sand tray therapies. She also has extensive school social work experience with seriously emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and their families.

    At GSSW, she teaches mixed methods in the Ph.D. program and in the MSW program she teaches clinical intervewing skills and evidence-based practices for mind-body connections. She also has expertise in teaching qualitative research methods and analysis at the doctoral level and clinical theories for clinical practice and human behavior in the social environment as the MSW and BSW levels.
