The following link will take you to the DU Lamont School of Music webpage that has information about The Spirituals Project, including our current performing activities.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but not our portfolio page, which is private and exclusively for TSP members.  The Lamont homepgae has a list of "Special Pages" at the bottom (this is an update). • TSP community conversations starting Feb 17

    Dear Spirituals Project members,

As mentioned several times in rehearsals, we will be facilitating a series of community conversations around the choir, The Spirituals, race, and social justice to build on the conversations we have had in choir rehearsals and at the retreat in September. Facilitated by Dr. Marquisha L. Scott (Assistant Professor of Social Work) and Aleysia, these series of conversations will take place at the Lamont School of Music before choir rehearsals. Our first community conversation will take place on Monday February 17 from 5:30pm to 6:50pm. We invite any choir member to participate.

We are facilitating these conversations in order to give you space to discuss these issues and to further fulfill the social justice and educational mission of the choir. Marquisha and I also plan to document these conversations as we conduct research on The Spirituals Project and its impact. Though we plan to address  discussion topics that have emerged in our conversations in the choir this year, Marquisha and I would also love to hear from you as we prepare these conversations. What topics have you been thinking about? What do you feel should be discussed in these community conversations? Please let us know!

Please be sure to contact Marquisha (Marquisha.Scott@du.edu) and/or Aleysia (aleysia.whitmore@du.edu) with any questions or concerns.

  • Please see Mercedes or Willie for more information.

  • Ed Battle Honored at Dazzle

    Hello everyone,

An article was published online in Westword last week about the tribute done at Dazzle to honor our Ed Battle. Here is the link:

Here's a YouTube link to Ed performing at the tribute to him at Dazzle on Nov. 25, 2019.  Many thanks to our Jackie St. Joan for sharing this clip, which I posted on YouTube in order to share with the choir.

  • South African Song

Since we are singing "Tshotsholoza,"  I thought some of you might be interested in the documentary Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony, a film about the ways in which song was a part of the resistance to Apartheid in South Africa. You can stream the film via Amazon Prime and the DU library (though I'm sure it is also available elsewhere). I highly recommend the film (warning: I cry every time I watch it). --Aleysia
