What is Urban Green Space?
Urban green space is defined as a piece of publicly accessible land within a municipality’s territory that has been set aside for recreational, environmental, or engineering purposes. Urban green space types fall on a “green-to-grey” continuum and include land such as open space, city parks, green infrastructure, community gardens, tree rows, and vacant lots (table on right).
A multitude of environmental, social, health, and economic benefits are provided by urban green space.
