Application and Admission
We are now accepting applications for the 2020 CAIS Certificate Program! In order to be considered for the 2020 CAIS Cohort, your application must be submitted by December 31st. Please review the 2020 Cohort schedule to ensure there are no conflicts before applying.
Before submitting an application, please carefully review the the Program Eligibility requirements here. If you have any questions about the requirements, please contact the Professional Development Program Coordinator before submitting an application.
Admission to the CAIS certificate requires that you have established a relationship with a canine organization (shelter, club, daycare, trainer, etc.) in your community where you can observe and work with multiple dogs during the entire certificate. You can read more about this requirement on the Fieldwork page. This fieldwork component is not specific to animal-assisted interventions; instead, you must be able to work hands-on with multiple canines. The CAIS curriculum includes weekly fieldwork assignments (interviews, observations, and training to name a few), so this relationship must be established before you apply.
Please have the following available to upload with your online application:
Fieldwork Affirmation: A letter from a local canine organization confirming your agreement allowing you to work with multiple canines each week throughout the certificate program (see links to sample documents below)
Apply HERE for the Canine-Assisted Intervention Specialist Certificate Program!
Below you will find a sample Introduction to Fieldwork Site Letter that you can use to explain the CAIS Certificate Program to a canine organization. You will also find a sample Fieldwork Site Affirmation. You do not need to use these particular documents, but something similar will be needed in order to affirm your partnership with an organization.
