  • Dr. Amy He’s (Assistant Professor, Faculty Affliate Butler Institute) credentials and experience amalgamate to more than 20 years of clinical and research experience and reflect her passion for social justice and advocacy. They guide and inform her research agenda and scholarship devoted to addressing pervasive challenges in the child welfare system, both for children and families involved in this system and the professionals who work there. They also form the context in which she teaches and translate research into practice. Currently, Dr. He is the Evaluation PI for the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI 3), funded through the Children's Bureau. NCWWI's purpose is to increase the equity and effectiveness of child welfare practice through diverse partnerships that focus on workforce systems development, organizational interventions, and change leadership, using data-driven capacity building, education, and professional development.  This projects involves partnerships with national child welfare experts, university partners, and a team of evaluation experts housed at the Butler Institute for Families.

    Prior to coming to the Univesity of Denver and while completing her PhD at the University of Southern Califronia, Dr. He was an Administration for Children and Families Children’s Bureau Doctoral Fellow. Additionally, she has more than 15 years of clinical experience and has worked as a case manager for individuals with developmental delays, school counselor, child sexual abuse therapist, and child welfare adoption worker for Los Angeles County's Department of Children and Family Services. Dr. He has experience teaching social work practice with individuals, families and groups as well as evidence-based interventions for social workers. At GSSW, she teaches courses in Evidence for Practice (4201) and foster care and permanency; she is the Lead Faculty for Evidence for Practice.

    Dr. He is also a Faculty Success Program Coach with the  the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD), where she coaches tenure-track faculty nationally to increase both their research and writing productivity while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
