Biographical Description
-
Born in San Diego, I have lived in California, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Colorado and Hawaii. My undergraduate education culminated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Aquatic Biology and a minor in coaching from the University of California, Santa Barbara. My love for skiing and teaching brought me to Colorado where I taught skiing for 8 years, before moving to Boulder to receive my Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and my Colorado Teaching Certificate.
I have been a middle level clasroom teacher since 1989 in Boulder Valley School District. In 2006, I began my journey in gifted education, inspired by my own two gifted sons. As a Colorado P-12 Gifted and Talented Specialist, I have been a Talented and Gifted Teacher Leader in BVSD, board member for Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented and presenter at local, state and national conferences for gifted and talented education.
In June of 2013, my gifted education journey continued as I joined the first DU Doctorate of Education: Curriculum Studies and Teaching-Gifted Education Specialization cohort. The people I have met, courses I have taken, collaboration I have done and camaraderie within this cohort has elevated not only my knowledge of gifted education, but also my resolve to advocate for gifted and talented students across the state of Colorado and beyond.
