• Background

  • Hello! My name is Corey and I am a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography & the Environment at the University of Denver. I am also an Intern at Esri, a GIS software company. I grew up in Kansas City, studied geography at the University of Missouri, then worked in various places as an English Teacher, Substitute Teacher, Math Teacher, Camp Counselor, and Outdoor Educator. Through my early study and work experiences, I became interested in how youth interact with their environments. My research focuses on how, and especially where, places and nature are meaningful in the lives of youth. I also explore how qualitative GIS research approaches such as story maps can facilitate location-based storytelling about lived experiences.
