Working for Educational Equity
-
The Convention on the Rights of the Child (United Nations, 1990; https://www.unicef.org/crc/ ) stated that all children have a right to an education that promotes their holistic development. I am dedicated to realizing this vision.
I have developed local and international community partnerships to enhance the educational opportunities for all students, especially those who have been and continue to be underserved. I partner with state departments of education and school districts to increase the number of students who are on track for 4-year high school graduation. This work has culminated in a book which outlines a model for multi-tiered system of supports from a positive youth development (PYD-MTSS) persective.
Internationally, I have consulted with school psychology professors in Ecuador and Greece, as well as led service-learning courses to Ecuador to work with high school English and special education teachers in remote regions. I have collaborated with colleagues on how to better utilize consultation so that students can be served in the least restrictive environments internationally (see vita for book chapter).
