About Me
I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Denver. I received my MSW from the University of Southern California, and my BA in Economics from Connecticut College. I worked for three years as a clinical social worker as a research assistant in Los Angeles with individuals who are considered high risk to contract HIV and I have worked with individuals who experience chronic homelessness as well as severe mental illness.
My research explores the intersection of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and homelessness. Individuals experiencing homelessness are disproportionally impacted by high rates of TBI. Despite past research that has examined the relationship between TBI and homelessness, there are specific gaps in knowledge, such as correlates and risk factors of TBI among individuals experiencing homelessness that should be further studied.
Therefore, my current research agenda involves three primary areas of focus:
1. The temporal relationship between TBI and homelessness along with associated risk factors.
2. The impact of COVID-19 on individuals experiencing homelessness and a TBI and access to important resources.
3. Social networks of individuals experiencing homelessness and a TBI, and, specifically the impact of social networks on substance use.
Evaluating the correlates of TBI among individuals experiencing homelessness is critical to understanding the unique challenges and healthcare needs of this vulnerable population and should be further explored in order to better inform intervention, prevention efforts, and future research.
