Prior to joining the MCE faculty in the fall of 2013, Janet Lear worked at the University of New Mexico in the Language, Literacy, and Socio-Cultural Studies Department and the Teacher Education Department to prepare future educators to effectively meet the needs of all children in reading/literacy. She coordinated reading/language arts teacher education across the network of four campuses at the University of New Mexico.
At the state level, Janet was involved in the New Mexico House Joint Memorial 16 Review of all state-funded reading teacher education. On the national level, she was a member of the Partnerhsip for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.
In elementary schools, Janet coordinated Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language resources, as well as working as a Reading Specialist. In middle schools, she taught all academic subjects with students with emotional disabilities mainstreamed into her classroom.
Janet has a Master of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
