Bio
Dr. Doina Chichernea joined the Reiman School of Finance in Fall 2017. She is coming to Denver from the University of Toledo, Ohio, where she had taught for the previous nine years. She earned her MBA in Finance from the University of Toledo and her PhD in Finance from the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Chichernea’s research interests are in the area of empirical asset pricing, with a special focus on the connection between idiosyncratic (firm-specific) risk and returns. She studies risk based explanations for asset pricing anomalies (instances where return variation seems to defy the basic tenet of “high risk, high return”). Her work is published in reputable journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Financial Management, European Financial Management, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Financial Research, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, the Journal of Real Estate Research and others.
Dr. Chichernea has taught various classes, both at undergraduate and graduate levels, including Investments, Corporate Finance and Financial Modeling. She also participated in international joint degree MBA programs, teaching on site at the PSG College in Coimbatore, India and offering live online classes to students in Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Chichernea was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. When not teaching or working on research, she loves traveling, reading and spending time with her family.
